hello. my name is Ian. I'm the member of garden variety who doesn't use sentence case.
in my opinion, 4 is the sweet spot for a group project. apparently someone on instagram suggested that garden variety is the boygenius of indie comix. that's all well and good because I would like to be the forgotten 4th member of an all girl (?) supergroup.
it's like the inverse of the third man factor, a psychological phenomenon where a small group of people in a stressful situation all independently imagine that there is an additional person there. the most infamous case of this was during shackleton's expedition across antarctica, when he wrote in his diary: "it seemed to me often that we were four, not three." so really why in god's name did they not call it fourth man factor – which would be a great name for a supergroup.
I almost titled this post "noncon piranesi," but "hidden by the gods" is the literal translation of 神隠し (kamikakushi) which was translated as "spirited away" in the title of the 2001 studio ghibli movie.
